Well don’t worry Freight-Specialist can walk you through the steps required to handle your cross border shipments so that they go as smooth as any other LTL or FTL shipment. The requirements are slightly different depending on the direction of the shipment. If the shipment is bound for the US the requirements are different than if heading towards Canada.
When your freight shipments are heading to Canada there are four things your shipment must have while traveling to Canada. They are a commercial invoice, bill of lading, a packing slip and a Canadian customs broker if the value of the shipment exceeds $1600 (Canadian dollars). There may be other documents requested depending on the type of shipment.
If your freight shipment is traveling to the US from Canada then you must have a commercial invoice, bill of lading, packing slip and a customs broker no matter what the value of the shipment is in order to have the shipment clear customs. If a customs broker is not provided at the time of pickup there are many complications that can arise such as the shipment traveling in bond and having to ship to a bonded facility by law.
So are you ready to ship to or from Canada? Send your freight quote request to Freight-Specialist and we will take care of the rest.
